Bobby's Caramel Apples

Bobby’s Frozen Custard is not just a place to get a frozen treat; it is an experience. Opened in 1990, the glistening stainless steel shop, decked out with flashing blue and pink neon lights and oldies music constantly humming from the speakers, lures customers in during the blazing heat of the summer months. Located on Highway 159 in Maryville, IL, Bobby’s is known for their free summer concerts, their creamy, addictive frozen custard and their mouthwatering caramel pecan apples.

Bobby Kozyak, owner of Bobby’s Frozen Custard, said that he was talked into adding this traditional fall classic by his longtime friend, Dan Schwendeman, owner of the Belleville Farmer’s Market. Dan suggested Bobby start doing caramel apples to make up for the lull in business that comes after Labor Day.

Since starting them back in 1998, Bobby says that he and his wife, Debbie, have traveled around the country looking for “the ultimate caramel apple.” After sampling hundreds of caramel apples, the Kozyaks settled on an intricate caramel recipe that must be maintained within 4 degrees and their own special custom-cut raw pecans. Bobby says the long-involved process is well worth the extra time and energy when the result is a caramel pecan apple that has been named the best in the St. Louis area!
